Gilding is an artistic ancient technique done only by the skilled artisans. Delicate thin leaves are gilded for a gold/ silver/copper appearance as an exquisite decoration, but with just a fraction of the cost if real solid gold/silver/copper were to be used for the vast surfaces. Squarish form is seen as the characteristic of gilded leaf. It can be in plain original color or be added with aging effect for a mellow finish
